General Dentistry | Leander
It takes four additional years after college or university to complete dental school and obtain your doctorate in dental surgery or medicine.
What is the difference between a DDS and DMD?
DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) and DMD (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry or Doctor of Dental Medicine) are the same degrees. It’s simply up to the universities to determine what degree is awarded, but both degrees use the same curriculum requirements.
Contrary to popular belief, general dentists are trained to perform all phases of dentistry. Everything from implants, fillings, crowns, braces, surgery, wisdom teeth extractions, dentures, cosmetic procedures, cleanings, exams, Invisalign, teeth whitening. However, many dentists lack the experience to tackle tough cases that often require additional training. These specialty classes include:
- Oral Surgery
- Endodontists – Root Canals
- Orthodontists – Braces
- Periodontists – Gum surgery and implants
- Pediatric Dentists – Children’s dentist
- Prosthodontist – Dentures and reconstruction
Here at Crystal Lake Dental in Leander, Dr. Hsu and his team of highly dedicated dentists have expertise in all these phases of dentistry and most importantly, we will treat you like a customer and make sure we do things right.
Similar to a car, when you don’t maintain your teeth & gums, plaque and calculus will build around the teeth and under the gums which can lead to dental problems like tooth decay, gingivitis, bone loss, halitosis (bad breath), and eventually, tooth loss. Having your teeth cleaned and examined routinely will keep the bacteria at bay allowing you to enjoy your food for a lifetime!
If you ever wonder why the people you see on TV, Youtube or IG have perfectly symmetrical white teeth. Its probably because they have porcelain veneers. If you are looking to optimum long term esthetic results that you don’t have to maintain, then veneers are the way to go.
Traditional braces are quickly becoming a relic of the past. Today we can reliably straighten your teeth beautifully by simply wearing clear aligners that you change once a week! Its faster, cleaner and simpler than ever before.
When all else fails, often times the only remaining option is to remove the tooth. This can be due to infections, cavities, fractures or severe gum disease.
Years of drinking coffee, tea & wine can stain our teeth deep in the enamel. Our Zoom whitening procedure is easy and non-invasive, and you can remove those stains from your teeth in a single, one-hour treatment.
