Signs You May Need A Dental Implant

If any of these sound familiar, a dental implant could be the solution you’ve been looking for.

🦷

Missing One or More Teeth

Gaps affect chewing, speech, and the alignment of surrounding teeth. Implants fill the space permanently.

😣

Loose or Ill-Fitting Dentures

Dentures that slip and slide can be anchored with implants for a secure, confident fit.

💔

Cracked or Severely Decayed Tooth

When a tooth can’t be saved with a crown or root canal, an implant is the strongest replacement.

🦴

Bone Loss in the Jaw

Missing teeth cause bone to deteriorate. Implants are the only replacement that stimulates bone growth.

🍽️

Difficulty Chewing or Speaking

Missing or damaged teeth make eating and talking harder. Implants restore full function.

😊

Self-Conscious About Your Smile

Implants look and feel like natural teeth. Smile, laugh, and live without worrying.

Your Options Compared

Not all tooth replacements are created equal. Here’s how your three main options stack up.

Are You A Candidate?

Most adults qualify for dental implants. Here’s what Dr. Sharaf looks for during your free consultation.

✅ Good Candidates

  • Healthy gums with no active periodontal disease
  • Sufficient jawbone density (or willing to do bone grafting)
  • Non-smoker or willing to quit during healing
  • Committed to good oral hygiene
  • Adult with fully developed jaw
  • Overall good health for minor oral surgery

🤔 Not Ideal? Don’t Rule It Out

  • Bone grafting can rebuild insufficient jawbone ($575–$720)
  • Gum disease can be treated before implant placement
  • Medical conditions like diabetes are reviewed on a case-by-case basis
  • Medications are evaluated for compatibility
  • Dr. Sharaf will create a plan that works for your situation

What About Full Mouth Cases?

Missing most or all of your teeth? Individual implants may not be the most efficient path. All-on-4 replaces an entire arch of teeth with just 4 implants, often with same-day results. Starting at $27,000 per arch.

Common Questions About Dental Implants

Get answers to what patients in Leander, Cedar Park, and Austin ask most.

Am I too old for dental implants?
No. There is no upper age limit for dental implants. As long as you’re in reasonable health and have adequate bone density, implants can work beautifully. We’ve successfully placed implants for patients in their 80s. Dr. Sharaf will evaluate your individual health during your free consultation.
What if I have bone loss — can I still get implants?
Yes, in most cases. Bone grafting ($575–$720 at Crystal Lake Dental) can rebuild the jawbone to support an implant. For full-arch cases, All-on-4 uses angled implants that often eliminate the need for grafting entirely. Dr. Sharaf will assess your bone with 3D imaging during your consultation.
How long is the implant process?
The implant post is placed in a single visit (about 1–2 hours). After that, the implant needs 3–6 months to fuse with the bone (osseointegration). The final crown is placed once healing is complete. You’ll have a temporary tooth during the healing period so you’re never without a smile.
Are dental implants painful?
Most patients say the procedure is easier than they expected. Local anesthesia keeps you comfortable, and we offer IV sedation with board-certified anesthesiologist Dr. Williams for a completely pain-free, anxiety-free experience. Post-op discomfort is typically managed with over-the-counter pain medication for a few days.
What’s the success rate of dental implants?
Dental implants have a 95–98% success rate, making them one of the most predictable procedures in dentistry. With proper care, they can last a lifetime. Dr. Sharaf has placed over 500 implants with excellent outcomes.
Do dental implants look natural?
Absolutely. The crown is custom-made to match the color, shape, and size of your natural teeth. Once placed, no one can tell the difference. Implants also feel natural because they’re anchored in bone, just like real teeth.
